Could you be our next Musical Director?

Posted by Sally

The good and bad news of the New Year is that our fantastically talented musical director of seven years, Rob Guy, is leaving us to pursue his burgeoning conducting career.

See info on that here: Robert-guy.com

Happy as we are to see our good friend doing so well, we will of course be very sad to lose him.

However, this does mean that some other lucky musician gets the chance to be our new Musical Director and we will be selecting that person over the next three months

Do pass along to someone who should apply! See below.

Cantorion Rhos

Musical Director required for established, mixed-voice choir in North Wales.

Cantorion Rhos, a mixed choir of around 40 voices, is looking for an energetic and enthusiastic, professional musician to take over from the current Musical Director. Rob is, sadly, leaving us, after a successful seven-year stint, to pursue his burgeoning career as a professional orchestral and choral conductor.

The right candidate will, preferably, have experience of working with choral groups and a diverse repertoire as well as the ability to share expertise, demonstrate technique and maintain good ensemble. It would also be helpful to have sufficient keyboard skills to assist in rehearsal if required.

The choir employs a professional accompanist / deputy MD and also has an assistant accompanist on its own community programme of musical apprenticeship.

Cantorion Rhos performs repertoire from a wide range of genres from Renaissance to present day; and has performed in many different venues and situations from Cathedrals to tents and concert halls to town squares.

The biennial overseas trip opens up many new opportunities and experiences. Most recently, the choir has visited Portugal and Northern Ireland with a trip to Tuscany booked for this April.

A chamber choir project is currently in its infancy and the successful candidate would be in a position to have considerable influence over its development.

Rehearsals are held weekly, currently on a Monday evening.

There will be an honorarium for the successful candidate as well as a performance fee and we would hope to form a long-term working relationship.

The post is available from May 2017, although a start date in September would also be considered for the right candidate.

Closing date for applications is 15th March 2017 with auditions / interviews to be held during April.
