We are very excited about this year’s Christmas concert, with special guests Bethan Griffiths, Harp; Morgana Warren-Jones, Soprano and Ysgol Deiniol Junior Choir directed by Jane Guy.

Bethan is no stranger to Cantorion Rhos having been our Deputy Pianist a few years ago. She is a very talented harpist and we have enjoyed listening to her performances on a number of occasions. We are confident that this concert will by no exception. Bethan was awarded a First Class Honours Degree from the Royal College of Music in 2017. She is currently studying for her Master of Performance Degree at the Royal College of Music. Her studies are generously supported by the Ashley Foundation Award.

Bethan began playing harp aged 10 and since then has performed across the UK and Europe both as a soloist and as part of ensembles.  She has performed in many prestigious venues such as Royal Festival Hall, Cadogan Hall, Buckingham Palace, Houses of Parliament, Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and Bridgewater Hall Manchester.
Bethan has achieved her ABRSM performance diplomas in both harp and piano. She has won many prizes including 1st prize in the National Eisteddfod Harp Solo, 2nd prize in the Urdd Eisteddfod Instrumental Solo and the 2016 Royal College of Music Harp Prize. In 2016 Bethan was also awarded the Nansi Richards Scholarship for harpists.
Bethan regularly performs in orchestras across North Wales, The North West and London including NEW Sinfonia and Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra. This has given Bethan the opportunity to work with world renowned conductors such as Bernard Haitink and Diego Masson.

Welsh Soprano Morgana Warren-Jones recently graduated from the University of Leeds with a first-class BMus Performance degree. She spent her third year at the Académie Supérieure de Musique de Strasbourg, where she had voice lessons with Marie Kobayashi, following tuition from Sarah Estill, Hilary Thomas, Jane Anthony and Martin Pickard. During her time at university, she was an active member of the Leeds University Chamber Choir, the Clothworkers Consort of Leeds, the National Youth Choir of Wales, and the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, and regularly performed as a soloist with the William Mathias Chamber Choir and Leeds Baroque.

She made her opera debut in 2011 as Mrs Jaffett in Noye’s Fludde – Britten at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod, and has since performed in the chorus of Eugene Onegin and Macbeth (Dorset Opera), Venus in Venus & Adonis – Blow, Philidel/Cupid in King Arthur – Purcell (Leeds Baroque), Micaëla in Carmen, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Geraldine in A Hand of Bridge – Barber (Leeds University Opera Society), the title role in Cendrillon – Viardot (Northern Opera Group), and 1st Owl in the upcoming opera film Hedd Wyn by Stephen McNeff (Welsh National Opera).
